Seagrass is a flowering plant native to Vietnam where an abundance of rivers and lakes gather. This plant grows partially submerged in bodies of water and have been cultivated by Vietnamese for centuries. They are used in crafting household items and even furniture. Seagrass is known for its flexibility and durability when dried making them the perfect material for Vietnamese weavers.
RAW SEAGRASS
Seagrass flooring is made by weaving a yarn spun from the dried leaves of the seagrass plant which grows in many shallow coastal waters around the world. It is not a true grass but the leaves are long, flat and blade-like so the name has stuck.
Woven seagrass can be used profitably in a wide range of products such as carpets, baskets, etc. Rugs from seagrass make an affordable option. Non-absorbent, and stain resistant, dirt can be easily brushed from them.
